Forty-two years ago on the historic day of April 4, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated while he was in Memphis supporting none other but African American sanitation workers. By making sanitation workers the very center of his attention, just prior to his assassination, it should make a statement on the importance of sanitation for society as a whole. Globally, diarrhoeal dehydration claims the lives of nearly 2 million children every year and has killed more children in the last 10 years than all the people lost to armed conflict since the Second World War (UNICEF 2000). Food for thought.
